"A gut-churning, heart-wrenching, blockbuster of a first novel . . . Parks-Ramage is an extraordinary new talent and Yes, Daddy is truly something special."—Kristen Arnett, author of Mostly Dead ThingsA propulsive, scorching modern gothic, Yes, Daddy follows an ambitious young man who is lured by an older, successful playwright into a dizzying world of wealth and an idyllic Hamptons home where things take a nightmarish turn. Jonah Keller moved to New York City with dreams of becoming a successful playwright, but, for the time being, lives in a rundown sublet in Bushwick, working extra hours at a restaurant only to barely make rent. When he stumbles upon a photo of Richard Shriver—the glamorous Pulitzer Prize–winning playwright and quite possibly the stepping stone to the fame he craves—Jonah orchestrates their meeting. The two begin a hungry, passionate affair. When summer arrives, Richard invites his young lover for a spell at his sprawling estate in the Hamptons. A tall iron fence surrounds the idyllic compound where Richard and a few of his close artist friends entertain, have lavish dinners, and—Jonah can’t help but notice—employ a waitstaff of young, attractive gay men, many of whom sport ugly bruises. Soon, Jonah is cast out of Richard’s good graces and a sinister underlay begins to emerge. As a series of transgressions lead inexorably to a violent climax, Jonah hurtles toward a decisive revenge that will shape the rest of his life. Riveting, unpredictable, and compulsively readable, Yes, Daddy is an exploration of class, power dynamics, and the nuances of victimhood and complicity. It burns with weight and clarity—and offers hope that stories may hold the key to our healing.

At this time of writing, The Ebook Yes, Daddy has garnered 8 customer reviews with rating of 5 out of 5 stars. Not a bad score at all as if you round it off, it’s actually a perfect TEN already. From the looks of that rating, we can say the Ebook is Good TO READ!

Jonathan Parks-Ramage's highly touted debut novel, “Yes, Daddy,” was highly disappointing for a number of reasons. I have yet to determine why the boo was so highly touted. The protagonist, Jonah Keller, was a selfish and self-centered young man to the core. He was a wimpy, cry baby who got into trouble due to the bad life decisions he made, then blamed others for his fate. He constantly played the “victim card,” citing others for his ills. When things got tough in his life, instead of confronting his problems and solving them, he ran. Ran home to mommy. Ran home to daddy. Tried to run home to his former friends, whom he had totally alienated by that time.At one point, Jonah said “trauma seems to follow me wherever I go.” (269). Again, bad life decisions resulted in the “trauma” that followed Jonah. He made one bad decision after another. But he tried to make himself a victim.None of the characters were likeable, especially Jonah. They all came across as self-centered users. They used other people in an attempt to obtain the things they wanted in life. Perhaps this was the author’s intent, but it caused me to totally dislike them all.Jonah ruined everyone’s life around him. He ruined his father’s life and livelihood by his lies. He ruined his mother’s life by destroying the family with his lies. And probably worst of all, he destroyed his friend Mace’s life by his lies on the witness stand, ultimately causing Mace’s death. Yet, Jonah blamed others, claiming “men in my life fail me.” (269) Mace at one point was able to fully accept responsibility for his life and decisions, but Jonah never did. There are a number of plot lines unresolved. I won’t detail them so as not to spoil the plot, but one was the fire at Richard’s house. The arsonist goes totally unpunished. He was so lucky in that regard, but fails to acknowledge it. Detailed in chapter 28, it failed to fit the overall narrative of the book and I have no idea why it was included. From a craft perspective, the writing was decent and the story engaging, but the dialogue was amateurish. Every character sounded the same. There were no distinguishing characteristics of anyone’s speech. The characters were never fully developed, especially Jonah’s friends Michael, Seb, Chase, and Rashad, his co-worker and good friend. Other than the consistency of Jonah’s bad decisions, he often acted out of character, even trying out religion for a while. That section of the book was totally from left field. Nothing in Jonah’s character would have led him there. And even when he thought religion was the answer, he ruined it for his mentor. The wake of destruction Jonah left behind him was massive. For these reasons, I cannot recommend this book. It was an attempt to tell a queer story, but it fell flat. The editor should have exerted more influence to remove sections of the book that failed to work and have the author include better character and plot development.
